Spaghetti and meatballs is an old favourite. There are many different recipes for making it and this one is very simple.

Spaghetti and Meatballs

Serves 4

1 packet dried spaghetti
500 grams minced beef
800 gram can crushed tomatoes in puree
¼ cup dried breadcrumbs
1 large egg
2 cloves garlic, minced or crushed
1 tablespoon oil
¼ cup chopped parsley
¼ cup grated cheese
Salt and pepper to taste

Put a large pot of salted water on to boil and cook the spaghetti to the packet instructions.

Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the cheese, parsley, garlic, egg, salt and pepper.

Add the beef and the breadcrumbs and mix gently. Form into balls.

In a heavy pot, heat the oil over a medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook turning occasionally for eight-to-10 minutes or until browned. Add the tomatoes and bring to the boil.

Reduce to a simmer, cover partially, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-to-12 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through.

Drain the spaghetti and add to the meatballs and sauce. Toss gently and serve with more grated cheese.
